Last night we held our annual Sports Awards to celebrate both team and individual achievements within sport over the last 12 months. The ceremony was well attended, and over 50 trophies were presented to acknowledge MVPs, most improved players, and contribution to students’ respective sports.
This year, the Glenfield College Blue’s award was given out for a student reaching high-level representative honours in their respective sport.
One of the highlights of the evening was a question-and-answer session with special guest Paige Blake, a current Black Stick, who is recovering at the moment after a recent ACL injury. Zoe and Travis, our hockey captains, did a wonderful job asking questions to Paige, as she shared some of her experiences, from school sport all the way to wearing the black for New Zealand as an international hockey player. One of the take-aways for the students would be to always know your “why?”.
This year, for the last time, the event MC was Alastair Tod. It was fitting that he introduced a new major trophy in his name, The Sports Personality of the Year, and that he was given a standing ovation at the end of the whole ceremony.
Congratulations to all award winners, and thank you to all those who have supported Sport throughout 2025.
