Studying at Glenfield College

Home InternationalStudying at Glenfield College

International students are a valued part of life at the school.  Glenfield College works hard to ensure each international student has a happy, fruitful and memorable time at the school.

Glenfield College agrees to observe and be bound by the Code of Practice for the Pastoral Care of International Students published by the Ministry of Education.  The Code document can be found here.

We offer a wide range of subjects to prepare students for national qualifications and further education.  All tertiary institutions accept Glenfield College students.

Students can take subjects at more than one level.  A student with solid mathematics ability may study mathematics at a level above their other subjects.

Students are encouraged to take part in the broader life of the school.  There are opportunities to take part in sports and cultural groups.

Download our student handbook here.

Facilities

International students have access to all the school facilities designated for student use and curriculum delivery.  Our facilities are modern and well-equipped.  Recent building projects include an intense remodelling of the Technology Block and an extensive computer network with over 300 computers available for student use.

Orientation

On arrival, following their welcome and a tour of the school with the peer support leaders, the international students will sit an English listening/Grammar and Mathematics test.  After the tests are marked, the students will see their relevant year level dean and they will help and confirm the courses the student has selected.

The student’s timetable will be given and the student will start in class.
An orientation booklet will be given to each student.

Grievance Procedures

The Deputy Principal in charge of International Students is the contact person for all students who have a grievance or complaint.  The school has a standard policy detailing the procedures for complaints.

International students can appeal decisions made against them to the International Education Appeal Authority.

Discipline

International students are to comply with our school expectations and discipline system exactly the same way as our resident students.

We may withdraw an international student from the school under, but not limited to, the following circumstances:

    • Committing an act of gross misconduct
    • Continual disobedience
    • Poor attendance
