This course offers Automotive Engineering Unit Standards in partnership with Unitec, which can be used as prerequisites for a variety of Unitec Automotive Courses from apprenticeship through to degree level. Credits achieved go towards the National Certificate for Entry to Automotive Trades and NCEA Levels 2 and 3.
Unit Standards offered include the identification/recognition of vehicle components, the study of petrol, diesel, two and four-stroke engines, vehicle braking, transmission, steering and suspension systems. The course consists of both theory and practical learning, giving students the opportunity to use hand tools and automotive equipment in an automotive workshop environment. The Gateway Programme is designed to meet the learning needs of our students by providing them with both traditional and workplace learning.
The course leads to a wide range of areas in the Automotive Industry.
Equipment in our workshop includes a vehicle lift, hoist, tyre changer and wheel balancer as well as many specialised diagnostic tools.
